After being told no for the last 200 years, the House of Representatives have okayed a bill that would allow a House of Representatives position to be created for the residents of the District of Columbia.This is a complete shock to some, who analyze the situation and state that technically the District of Columbia is not a state and has no right to a representative in the house.
Along with adding a member of the house for the D.C. area, Utah has been given a fourth seat.Now the bill is passed along to the Senate to have a final approval but with the District of Columbia not being a true state, many are expecting the bill to be squashed. Some may not have realized but 200 years ago it was determined that the District of Columbia would be banned from a seat in the House since it was not a state.
This is a major milestone in the House of Representatives, which has sat at 435 seats since 1960; it has been over 45 years since additional seats were added to the house.Opponents of the new bill have all been quick to point out that while it's wonderful that the House is looking to grow, the Constitution clearly states that the members of the House are chosen by the people of the states, which since the District of Columbia is not a state, causes a major snafu in the plans of the Democratic majority House.
The House is slated to keep the 437 seats even after the 2010 census, which is when Utah is slated to be expanding to a 4th district. The average age that people live to in the western world is steadily increasing as medical advances continue at pace. This has led to many people wanting to find solutions to help them to stay looking young for longer periods. A new market has been borne, one of anti ageing products and advice.
We are often shown pictures and images in the media and on our television screens, of famous people who look far younger than they actually are. Most people marvel at them and wonder how they have managed to keep up their youthful appearance, despite their advancing age. Top cosmetic companies are now hiring some of these people to help them to advertise their own anti ageing products. These products are not that cheap however and for how many years are we supposed to keep using these creams for example? The cost could soon mount up causing certain people to stress, this itself could easily lead to even more wrinkles!
Too much exposure to the sun can be a very bad thing and can have the affect of speeding up the ageing process. Sun beds are also known, from what I have read, to be a cause of wrinkles, if over used. Therefore avoid too much sun and sun beds!
A lot of people in the western world work far too hard in my opinion, in a quest to earn more money. They can lose valuable sleep by doing this and the stress of the work is also likely to have a damaging affect on the ageing process. Obtaining plenty of sleep is important for people wanting to delay this ageing process, as is attempting to live as stress-free a life as possible.
I would also advise people to look after their own health. Smoking cigarettes is certainly not going to help people to stay looking young. Taking regular exercise such as swimming or jogging is likely to help however.

Getting into the habit of being happy is easy. The first step is learning to appreciate your blessings, seeing the good or greater meaning of things. This requires that you become more aware of your five senses. How else could the smell of freshly baked cookies cheer up your woefully dreary day? How else could the faint sound of your sleeping child’s breathing ease you into your own peaceful resting state? We need to use our senses to become more aware of our surroundings, and accept them. It's then that we can change our surroundings to become more pleasing to us. This could include some small, but significant changes, like placing candles by the bathtub, or buying a special lamp for your reading area.
Scientific research suggests that colors play an important role in one's moods. Light green and orange seem to make people feel happier, whereas red makes them feel hungry. Many people have been hiring interior decorators as part of their strategy for feeling better, as interior decorators have studied colors, patterns, layouts, etc., and they use these factors to create a comfortable living area, tailor-fit to your needs. Just remember to research your interior designer, and be frugal. The positive effect that redesign brings, needn't be boggled down by guilt from over-doing it. Australian Workplace Agreements which fail the test may still be registered if it is in the public interest to do so. A workplace may be covered by an existing enterprise agreement specifying conditions above the award, which may mean that the Workplace Agreement is a reduction in standard workplace conditions.
When the Liberal Federal Government, lead by John Howard announced the new reforms dealing with new Workplace Agreements and work conditions, Unions slammed the introduction of a system, claiming that thousands of unskilled and skilled workers Australia wide would be sacked on the spot, with no penalties and rights, once available through the old Industrial tribunal system.
Conversations in workplace lunchrooms following the Federal Governments decision to introduce the new WorkPlace Agreement in 2006 lead to fears of mass sacking’s, loss of wages and terms and conditions of employment that most workers were not happy to comply with. These fears were realised in late March, when workers at a regional meat works were sacked on the spot and replaced by imported, cheaper labour until the retrenched workers agreed to a new and much less favorable Workplace Agreement.
A company in South Australia immediately sacked without notice 2 skilled workers with many years experience, giving no reason for their retrenchment, except for claiming that these employees were no longer required.
The workers most effected by the new system are unskilled and semi-skilled labour. Employees that can be are now replaced more regularly each time a company is restructured or streamlined. Wages, work conditions, except Occupational Health & Safety can now be negotiated between employees and the employer. But Union officials say that this system is bound to lead to bullying by some employers as they introduce an agreement of “either take what we offer of leave”.
Time will tell what will happen in the Australian workplace, but disturbing signs are already making the Federal and State Governments move quickly to amend and in some cases change many Workplace Policies.
