Tips As Well As Information When Building A Dog House
Is your dog in need of his own shelter? Why not gather the family and build him a dog house. This can be a fun project the whole family will take pleasure in.
Before you start you will want to agree on the right size of house to build. You might have to change the dog house plans depending on the size of your dog. Then gather your material and tools, and select a good site.
As you go out to determine the spot for the dog house, take into factor how the elements will affect your selection. Take into factor how wind, rain, snow, etc… will play a factor in the spot you choose. You don’t want to choose a location that will puddle after a rainy day.
The second phase is to think about the size of your dog. You do not want to construct it and after that notice it is too undersized. You also do not want to oversize the house. In the wintry weather, the dog’s body heat is what helps to warm up the house. If the dog is small and the dog house is outsized, the dog can not heat the area. The house needs to be sized simply large enough for the dog to turn around. Typical, this is an extra twelve inches in width, height, and depth to your dog’s size. You can adjust the dimensions to fit your needs.
At this time you will want to decide on your dog house plans. You can choose to sketch your own plans. With a little knowledge in construction, this is a relatively easy thing to do. This way your dog house is tailored to exactly what your pet needs. If this is more of a challenge than you want, there are an abundance of websites that offer at no cost dog house plans. Simply go online and look for the plan that meets your needs. If this still is not what you are looking for, there are several websites that have dog house plans for sale.
The last step is constructing the dog house. As a general rule, it can be built with familiar household tools. For instance, you will without doubt need a tape measure, hammer, and saw. The materials for the project will depend on the plans you have chosen.
The entire family can be involved in constructing this project for your pet. With a little forethought, some plans, and a little labor, your family pet can have a home of his own.
Remember that you can explore the web to locate lots of free of charge plans, such as dog house blueprints, picnic table plans, plans for bird feeders as well as lots more.

The Many Good Reasons For Creating Your Own Cleaners
Ready to learn more about homemade laundry detergent? There are quite a few advantages of doing this instead of buying commercially available detergents. What are you using right now to clean your clothes? More than likely it is one of the following products:
- Purex
- Tide
- Gain
- Cheer
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with using them, but I am saying that it can be quite beneficial to make your own homemade version.
It’s More Frugal
Let’s start with the main reason most of start making our own detergent. Homemade versions are quite a bit cheaper. Depending on what detergent you buy right now, and whether or not you stick with the actual brand or a store-brand version. You can save between 20 and 50 cents per load of laundry. That may not look like a lot of cash, but just think of how many times you run your washing mashine each month or even each year. The average family does about 2 loads per day. Let’s say you save just $0.25 per load. That’s a saving of well over 180 dollars each year you make your own detergent.
It’s Better For Your Skin
While those savings are certainly appreciated, the main reason I stay with the homemade kind, is because it gives me control over what goes into the detergent. Go read the label of the detergent sitting in your laundry room right now. Most of it probably doesn’t make much sense. Detergents you pick up at the store have quite a few preservatives and other chemicals in them. Add to that the various artificial fragrances that are added and it is no wonder many of us, particularly young children are having allergic reactions to clothing washed in regular detergent. By making your own laundry soap, you decide what goes in there and most recipes call for nothing more than soap, borax and washing soda. It makes it a lot gentler on your child’s (and your own) skin.
Ecologically Friendly
For the same reason homemade laundry detergent is also more ecologically friendly. In the last section I mentioned additives and chemicals that are added to commercial soap. These are harmful to the environment as they make it into the water systems. Just by making your own laundry soap, you are contributing to the environment and are helping save the earth. This may not be a big concern for you, but it is nice to know that you can do your part just by making detergent.

Lawn Shed Style - Wooden Or Metal?
Are you thinking whether to get a garden shed? There are a few things to think about first. First of all, wood or metal. The second thing is, do you buy or build it yourself? You can learn from my mistakes, keep reading and find out the most suitable option for you.
When I first decided to get a new garden shed I made the mistake of ordering a ‘build it yourself’ premade metal shed. It took me roughly a day to make and I knew straight from the start it likely wasn’t going to be the shed I wanted.
After I had built it I tried to persuade myself that it would do the job. The sliding metal doors made such a hideous noise when closing them and although I had bolted all of it down to the ground it did not feel extremely safe.
It wasn’t till one or two days later I noticed that some of my tools and equipment were wet. As I looked up at the roof I realized it was damp. Condensation; the whole roof was covered with condensation which failed to disappear until late afternoon by which time as quickly as the sun had gone down it was already beginning to come back.
I tolerate it for two months until I ultimately made the decision to tug it down and get a wooden shed. The first reason I didn’t get a wooden shed was because of the price. Metal sheds appear to be so much less expensive, I now know why.
Being an eager DIY person there was no way I was going to buy one. I invested a touch of money and downloaded an entire load of plans from the Net. After selecting the right plans I took them to my local lumber yard where they gave me a quote from materials. It was not much more than the original metal shed I had wasted my money on.
A few days later the shed was built and it is now my pride and joy. All my tools are safe and dry and I’ve a load of room to spare. The neatest thing is people can’t believe that I made it myself. It’s great to show off my DIY skills!
To conclude, forget about getting a metal shed. They’re just a waste of money. Nothing trumps a good old school wooden shed and building it yourself is definitely the way to go.
It’s such a laugh and you get to show it off to all your neighbors and friends when you have completed it!

If you like to DIY - you may think about employing a pre built kit to build a storage shed. Storage shed kits can be simply found in several stores, and at the renovation section of many department stores.
Here are some pointers to help you make the optimum use of storage shed kits, and get your shed simply built.
1. When you shop for storage shed kit, try and read some reviews concerning the different manufacturers. Look for other people experience with a certain kit and find if they’ve found it easy to assemble, if they were forced to get anything special to get the job finished, if they encountered and special problems and soon. These reviews could be of serious help to you.
2. Make your decision regarding the material your shed would be made from. Choose the material according to the climate in your area. You may find prefabricated kits for sheds made from plastic, vinyl, wood and metal. Weigh the good points and bad points of each material and decide before heading off to the store. At this time you might also want to gauge the space you have available for a shed so you’d have the measurements handy when you make your last choice.
3. Once you purchase the shed kit, and before leaving the store open the box, read through the instructions enclosed and make sure you have everything you could need to get the job done. You may find you want to get some glue, paint or anything more. Reading the instructions while still in the shop may save you a trip back to the store later on.
4. Before you take all of the pieces out of the box, prepare the place you’d be building on. The site should be flat and firm. Clearly you’d need to scrub the surface a bit, remove any debris or other stuff that could be scattered around there.
5. The first step before beginning to screw or nail anything together would be for you to lay out everything included in the kit and confirm nothing is missing and you identify every part. If you find anything missing it would be best for you to call the manufacturer’s number and have them ship the missing part to you. At any event it might be better for you to find out about any missing part before you commence building.
6. Once you start building follow the directions carefully. This would guarantee getting the best results.
7. Get someone to help you in building your storage shed. A shed is kind of big to build on your own and would be less complicated for two folk to build it together.

Guess What - Make Your Own Cleaners Instead
Small little frugal changes can really add up. Here’s something that’s working really well for me and my family. About 6 months ago I stopped buying commercial cleaning products. Until I stopped buying them, I had no idea how much money I was wasting each month on them since they just came out of my grocery budget. Just by making those small changes and not changing my buying habits otherwise, I ended up saving $60 per month which quickly adds up over the course of the year.
Curious to see how I did this? Laundry detergent was one of my biggest expenses, which is why I switched to this homemade laundry detergent which costs my less than 10% of my old soap.. To get my clothes nice and soft, I use I also switched to this frugal fabric softener made from things I have sitting around anyway.
Other than that, I switched to cleaning with things that were already sitting in my kitchen pantry, with things like:
- salt
- white vinegar
- lemon juice
- olive oil
- baking soda
Here is how you can put those ingredients to use as homemade household cleaners.
For an all purpose disinfecting counter cleaner mix 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of water. Take an old spray bottle, clean it out and pour everything in it. .
For a simple but effective scouring powder mix baking soda with a little bit of mild dish soap until you get a paste. Put in a little elbow grease and scrub away.
Clean your floors with a gallon of warm water, a good splash of vinegar (which gives it a nice shine) and a few drops of dish soap. .
Make your own wood polish by mixing a cup of olive oil with ½ cup of lemon juice. Mix it well and keep it in a bottle or a small spray bottle. Add a little of the mixture to a soft cloth and apply it to wood tables etc. Wipe any residue off with a clean soft cloth.
For hard to remove stains mix equal parts of baking soda, salt and borax. Pour this mixture on the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes. Give it a good scrubbing with an old nail brush, then wipe everything clean with a damp cloth.
Baking soda is a wonderful carpet freshener. Sprinkle it on and then allow it to sit for at least an hour. Then just go over it a few times with your vacuum to get all that baking soda back up. This also works on mattresses, sofas etc.
Baking soda also works wonders in your fridge. Open a box of baking soda and stick it in the back of your fridge.
Did you know that chances are pretty good that you don’t need a pricey drain cleaner? . Combine a cup of salt, a cup of vinegar and a cup of baking soda in a small bowl. Pour the mixture down the clogged drain. Leave it for a few minutes then rinse it with plenty of hot water. This simple recipe has unclogged quite a few drains for me and saved me a bundle.

A gambrel shed is an enticing design option which has passed the test of time for functionality & eye appeal. In my opinion, the free gambrel shed plans are not actually worth the paper they are written on. When anyone charges cash for a product, they must make sure the consumer is going to have his expectations met & exceeded. When you are in business to earn money, you cannot afford to have returns & upset consumers.
If you are giving something away for free & a customer is disappointed with the quality, you haven’t any skin in the game & don’t care as much. After all what did you expect? You did not PAY anything for those plans did you?
There are nightmare stories out there about free plan projects gone badly, & I think there’s some truth to them. Imagine having the entire wood cut for you project to find the pieces are too long or worse yet, too short.
Make sure you know what type of plans you are getting. One reason you are building your own shed is to save cash, & that’s admirable, but there are some areas where you should not scrimp. I would avoid free gambrel shed plans like the plague.
That having been said, you don’t have to pay through the nose for your gambrel shed plans either. The average set of plans will cost about $30-40. The problem is that you are not likely to find just one plan that meets your tastes. The comparatively new phenomenon called the Internet has given a solution.
Thanks to technology things like books, plans & software can now be digitally delivered with little to no physical overhead. That means it is actually possible for you to get thousands of quality plans for around the cost of one plan in the brick & mortar world.
That implies for one little price you can now have not only a number of different gambrel shed plans, but also plans for outdoor furniture, garden projects, dog houses, wooden toys, & any amount of things in between.
If you are convenient with tools, & if you are building a shed my guess is you are you’re going to have other DIY projects in the future. The average set of woodworking plans will cost between $10 and $25.
